The short answer: Under Ohio’s Home Solicitation Sales Act, buyers can cancel until midnight of the third business day after signing, and under R.C. 1345.23, until the seller provides the required agreement and notices, the buyer may cancel. Any violation is also a deceptive act under the Consumer Sales Practices Act, which allows rescission or damages and generally must be pursued within two years.
Ohio requires the contract to be in essentially the same language as the sales pitch, a statement of your right to cancel and a Notice of Cancellation form. Sellers also generally can’t start work during the cancellation period.
Ohio’s Consumer Sales Practices Act allows rescission or damages, and treble damages or $200 for conduct already declared deceptive. In January 2026, the Ohio Attorney General sued a solar company over alleged high-pressure sales, misleading savings and loan terms; those are allegations, not findings.
Ohio’s distribution utilities credit excess solar at only the energy portion of the standard service rate. Homeowners who buy from a competitive supplier or through community aggregation may get different terms, or none, because suppliers aren’t required to offer net metering.
