The short answer: Maryland’s Door-to-Door Sales Act, Commercial Law 14-301 to 14-305, requires sellers to give you a contract in the same language used in the sales presentation and two copies of a Notice of Cancellation with a three-business-day window. Section 14-302.1 adds longer windows for home improvement contracts, including more time for buyers 65 and older. If the seller violates the Act, you can cancel by any means.
Most residential solar installations are home improvements, which is why Maryland’s longer home improvement windows can matter. Check the version of Section 14-302.1 in effect when you signed for your exact deadline, and note the extra time for buyers 65 and older.
Violations of the Door-to-Door Sales Act are unfair or deceptive trade practices under the Maryland Consumer Protection Act, enforced by the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division. Home improvement contractors also need a license from the Maryland Home Improvement Commission.
Maryland’s utilities offer net metering under state law, but credit rules and supplier arrangements vary. Compare your bills with the proposal’s assumptions.
