The short answer: Under La. R.S. 9:3538, Louisiana consumers can cancel a home solicitation sale until midnight of the third business day after signing, and a mailed notice counts when deposited. Section 9:3539 requires a statement under the caption “CONSUMER’S RIGHT TO CANCEL,” and until the seller complies, you may cancel by any means.
Louisiana’s rule covers both credit and noncredit home solicitation sales of $25 or more. If your solar paperwork lacks the required caption, your right to cancel stays open until the seller complies.
Louisiana’s Unfair Trade Practices and Consumer Protection Law prohibits deceptive acts in trade, and the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Section takes complaints.
Louisiana’s utilities compensate exported solar under rules set by state and local regulators, and those rules changed for newer customers. Check your actual credit.
