The short answer: Under 9 V.S.A. § 2454, Vermont consumers can cancel a home solicitation sale until midnight of the third business day after the transaction. Until the seller provides the required notice, you may cancel by any means. If the sale was negotiated mainly in a language other than English, the disclosures must be in that language, and a seller that performed services before a cancellation gets no compensation for them.
Vermont’s no-compensation rule matters when a solar crew started work quickly. If you cancel validly, the seller can’t charge you for what it already did.
Vermont’s Consumer Protection Act prohibits unfair and deceptive acts, and the Attorney General’s Consumer Assistance Program takes complaints.
Vermont’s net metering rules have changed several times, and newer systems receive different compensation than older ones. Check your own utility’s terms.
